📄 General Information
As of August 29, 2019, Alabama law (Act 2019-340) changed the marriage process. You no longer apply for a license instead, couples must complete and notarize a Marriage Certificate form and submit it for recording.
✅ Steps to Get Married in Alabama:

Visit the Alabama Vital Statistics website to complete the Marriage Certificate form.

Ensure all names match your current legal identification.

Print the form single-sided (do not print on the back).

Both parties must sign in front of an Alabama notary.

Do not make any alterations to the form (no white-out, strikethroughs, or corrections).

Your marriage becomes legal when the completed form is properly recorded by the Probate Court.

Restrictions: No music or decorations allowed. Please be discreet as this is a workplace environment.

Your identification must match the name on your paperwork exactly.

Witnesses are not required, but you may bring up to 8 guests.

Total fee: $88.00 (includes ceremony, paperwork, and one certified copy of your marriage record).

Additional certified copies: $2.00 each.

Signatures must be notarized prior to submission.

You must sign in front of the notary, and the date you sign must match the notary’s signature date.

The consent form must be signed and notarized at the same time as the minor’s signature on the Marriage Certificate Affidavit.

After notarization, submit the original affidavits to the Montgomery County Probate Office for recording.

You have 30 calendar days from the notarized date to record the documents.

Important Update
As of August 29, 2019, Alabama law no longer requires marriage ceremonies. However, if you wish to have a courthouse ceremony, Montgomery County offers them by appointment only.
